Ancient Secrets Smuggled From Japan
Here's how it all started: After graduating from college I worked for several years as an analyst at many of the top trading firms around, such as E.F. Hutton, Merrill Lynch, and others.
As an analyst, I became an expert at using technical analysis tools to give trading recommendations to the firm's traders. It was a pretty clear job -- I either gave good trade recommendations or else the firm lost money on my trades. And if they lost money, then I would have been dumped out the back door in a hurry! My family's well-being literally depended on the success of my recommendations, so you can be sure I was always looking for better ways to analyze the markets.
Then one day in 1987 -- almost by chance -- I stumbled on some funny looking charts that one of my colleagues was looking at in his office. When I asked, "What the heck are those," I had no idea that question would lead to one of the biggest breakthroughs in modern trading.
Yes, they were candlestick charts.
My colleague was from Japan and happened to be looking at some charts that a friend had sent him. Curious to learn something new, I asked him to explain them to me. Unfortunately, he couldn't give me much information about them other than the basics. "They're just another kind of chart," he said.
Boy, was he wrong!
I immediately started going to every bookstore in New York trying to find more information about them. But I couldn't find anything. So I started calling up specialty bookstores all over the country. Nothing turned up.
So I was forced to go underground. I made a contact in Tokyo -- "Mr. X" -- and had him scour every bookstore in the city for books about these candlestick charts. Eventually he dug up 16 books.
But suddenly I had a new problem. I had to get those books to New York asap. However, I had no idea about Japanese exporting laws, and I certainly didn't want to know how much the customs taxes would be if he shipped them to me.
Luckily, Mr. X was coming to New York on business in a few weeks. So I had him shove all those big heavy books into a suitcase (I picked up the tab for them being over the allowed weight limit), and then he brought them right to my office.
Finally… I had the books that would unlock the secrets to Japanese candlestick charts!
But they were written entirely in Japanese. So I then spent a lot of money -- tens of thousands of dollars -- on translations and re-translations. I wanted to make sure I thoroughly understood everything there was to know about candlestick charts… right from the source!
Then I took my research to the next level by working with top Japanese technical analysts working at the very best trading firms.
My painstaking hard work was the basis for my first two books. This information blew away traders when my first book appeared in 1991. Now, nearly 20 years later, candle charts are everywhere. They're a mainstay in every charting software. Magazines and books use them to illustrate their articles. For good reason -- they work! You see, candlestick charts give you DOUBLE the information than old-fashioned bar charts.
Still to this day, I'm the only person who has done original research on Japanese candle charts directly from the source in these old Japanese manuscripts. Everyone else who claims to teach candle charts just copies what I've done.
